RS and The Moonshiners
Here are the folks that make Russ Still and The Moonshiners happen!
Ben Still – Guitar, Engineer
Ben has been playing in bands for over 15 years. His background is metal! That experience makes him an important contributor to The Moonshiners sound.
He also serves as the band’s recording engineer. A graduate of The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences, Ben has served stints in Nashville’s world class Black Bird Studios, Tree Sound in Atlanta and Triangle Sound Studio West in LA, home of Grammy winning producer Tricky Stewart.
Bob Berry – Drums
A native of Columbus, GA, Bob has been playing drums since he was 14 years old. Although he has played with many bands over the past few decades his primary gig has been the 9 piece R&B powerhouse The Soul Review.
Bob brings that soul and drives the Moonshiners rhythm section.
Cam Still – Keyboards
Cam is from Petersburg, VA where she spent her formative years learning piano. She previously played bass with The Chicken and The Egg and The Twisted Blue.
Although The Moonshiners is her first stint at keyboards, she has co-written and edited many of the songs the band performs.
Chris Hinson – Guitar
Chris was born in Pensacola, FL the son of a Naval aviator. He became obsessed with Elvis in 2nd grade and received his first guitar soon thereafter. Chris began playing in bands at the age of fifteen and moved to Atlanta in 1989 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional musician. He is an avid collector of guitars and tube amps and also plays in the Pink Floyd tribute band “In the Flesh”. Chris brings his hot chicken pickin’ licks , B-bender Tele twang and a touch of David Gilmour’s bluesy melodicism to the eclectic mix of musicians that are the Moonshiners.
Ed Usher – Bass, Vocals
Hailing from Nowhere, IN, Ed moved to Birmingham, AL in the late 70s where he became the go to studio bassist. He played in the most well known regional bands of the time playing concerts, premiere clubs and fraternity parties throughout the Southeast. He played with the band Hotel in the late 70s/early 80s that had record deals with Mercury and MCA. Following that he played with Split The Dark who won the MTV Basement Tapes competition in 1986.Ed’s strong musicality adds the flavor to everything you hear from The Moonshiners.
Rachel Rowland – Vocals
Rachel has been singing and writing for several years. A classically trained pianist, self taught guitarist and a natural harmonizer, her talent is never ending. Her first recorded song, ‘I Ain’t Your Whiskey’ is country rocker is a fan favorite and included in every Moonshiner set.
Rachel’s strong vocals and stage presence add the sweet topping to The Moonshiner’s sound.
Recorded at a recent show at Vinyl
In early October 2015 I got an email from a twitter follower and website fan, Allen. He told me he had a cable TV show about hunting (that’s “huntin'” if you’re from around here). He was looking for a theme song for the show and wondered if I could write something. I told him I’d never done anything like that before, but I could try.
He sent me some tracks from some other shows he liked. He told me about the show and what they were trying to do. I agreed to give it shot. Then he told me he needed it in 3 weeks. Write lyrics and melody, arrange, record, mix and master in 3 weeks! So, that’s what we did, almost. We were 3 weeks and 3 days delivering the final track.
The Moonshiners showed up and delivered on this one. A special shout out to Ben who engineered and mixed. It’s mighty fun when your boy shows how talented he is.
Available soon on iTunes and all the expected online sites.
