RS and The Moonshiners

The Moonshiners on Radio Free Georgia (WRFG) - On January 19, 2016 the band, along with our acoustics guitars, crammed into the studio at WRFG in Little 5 Points – Atlanta for an hour long interview and mini-concert to support the upcoming Americana in the Park show. Much love to Jules the air shifter, who made us feel right at home. Enjoy this […]
HAPPY NEW YEAR - We’re heading south on I85 on our way to Pensacola FL for The Pelican Drop – New Years Eve Show. 2015 has been an amazing year with lots of new friends, great music and good times. We’re stoked about what’s in store for 2016.  We appreciate y’all hanging with us for the journey. Have a […]
Where It Started - I’ve told the story about blaming Boo for getting me involved in this crazy business (and I thank him every chance I get). If you missed it the short version is in 10th grade Boo started coming to my school. We hit it off great. That spring he was putting together a band for the […]
Russ Still singing Sturgill Simpson’s ‘You Can Have The Crown’ - I had such a big time at the Sturgill Simpson show in Atlanta on 10/24/15 I had to honor it. Reviews coined it the biggest Karaoke Party in town. Sturgill’s voice was blown, he promised to come back to give us the show we deserved, but he gave us a free show calling people out […]
Russ’ Big Night Out – Sturgill Simpson Show - First things first, Sturgill Simpson is THE MAN. A relatively new artist out of Nashville that I’ve been listening to for about 2 years. If you haven’t heard him (or even heard of him) stop reading this and go listen. Really. So he’s playing in Atlanta, I’m not sure I can go, but 2 days […]
Award-Show-Better-Pic-3 The Moonshiners named Country Band of 2015 by The Georgia Music Awards - We are honored to named by the Georgia Music Awards as the Country Band of the Year! Cam and I attended the event on Saturday, August 14th at the Buckhead Theatre. We had a great time and made a bunch of new friends – Halcyon Way (Rock Band    winner), Justin Duke (Male Country Vocalist winner) and […]
I Do - I wrote “I Do” when I married Cam. I sang it during the ceremony. You can hear it at https://www.reverbnation.com/russstill It’s on the CD ‘The Russ Still Project’ available on iTunes I DO by Russ Still Thinking bout what brought us to this place It’s the path we had to climb There’s not a step […]
The Story Behind Alabama Cold - Track 10 on White Lightnin’ started on a hunting trip in south Alabama in the early 90s. I was in Fairhope, AL for Christmas. I was staying with my (now ex) sister in law and her husband, Lala and Dude (I’ve changed their names to protect the innocent – except anybody that knows me or […]
The Story Behind Wrapped Around Your Finger - Here’s the back story from track 8 from White Lightnin’ In August 2006 I was 8 months past finalizing my divorce, running around like a hound dog…. and tired of it. I had been out of town. I was driving home and a buddy called to invite me to a party. Bring a date he […]
The Story Behind “Keep Holding On” - The Story Behind “Keep Holding On” Not too long ago a very close friend tried to kill them self. They suffer from chronic depression. It’s a terrible disease. The only shame in depression is when someone is sick and they (or their family) don’t do anything about it. They’re good now. They take care of […]

Here are the folks that make Russ Still and The Moonshiners happen!

Ben Still – Guitar, Engineer

Ben Color 150a

Ben has been playing in bands for over 15 years. His background is metal! That experience makes him an important contributor to The Moonshiners sound.

He also serves as the band’s recording engineer. A graduate of The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences, Ben has served stints in Nashville’s world class Black Bird Studios, Tree Sound in Atlanta and Triangle Sound Studio West in LA, home of Grammy winning producer Tricky Stewart.

Bob Berry – Drums

Bob Color 150

A native of Columbus, GA, Bob has been playing drums since he was 14 years old. Although he has played with many bands over the past few decades his primary gig has been the 9 piece R&B powerhouse The Soul Review.

Bob brings that soul and drives the Moonshiners rhythm section.

Cam Still – Keyboards

Cam color 150

Cam is from Petersburg, VA where she spent her formative years learning piano. She previously played bass with The Chicken and The Egg and The Twisted Blue.

Although The Moonshiners is her first stint at keyboards, she has co-written and edited many of the songs the band performs.

Chris Hinson – Guitar

Chris 150

Chris was born in Pensacola, FL the son of a Naval aviator.  He became obsessed with Elvis in 2nd grade and received his first guitar soon thereafter.  Chris began playing in bands at the age of fifteen and moved to Atlanta in 1989 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional musician.  He is an avid collector of guitars and tube amps and also plays in the Pink Floyd tribute band “In the Flesh”. Chris brings his hot chicken pickin’ licks , B-bender Tele twang and a touch of David Gilmour’s bluesy melodicism to the eclectic mix of musicians that are the Moonshiners.

Ed Usher – Bass, Vocals

Ed Color 150

Hailing from Nowhere, IN, Ed moved to Birmingham, AL in the late 70s where he became the go to studio bassist. He played in the most well known regional bands of the time playing concerts, premiere clubs and fraternity parties throughout the Southeast. He played with the band Hotel in the late 70s/early 80s that had record deals with Mercury and MCA. Following that he played with Split The Dark who won the MTV Basement Tapes competition in 1986.Ed’s strong musicality adds the flavor to everything you hear from The Moonshiners.

Rachel Rowland – Vocals

Rachel Color 150Rachel has been singing  and writing for several years. A classically trained pianist, self taught guitarist and a natural harmonizer, her talent is never ending. Her first recorded song, ‘I Ain’t Your Whiskey’ is country rocker is a fan favorite and included in every Moonshiner set.

Rachel’s strong vocals and stage presence add the sweet topping to The Moonshiner’s sound.

Recorded at a recent show at Vinyl

WCHlogostone100px1

In early October 2015 I got an email from a twitter follower and website fan, Allen. He told me he had a cable TV show about hunting (that’s “huntin'” if you’re from around here). He was looking for a theme song for the show and wondered if I could write something. I told him I’d never done anything like that before, but I could try.

He sent me some tracks from some other shows he liked. He told me about the show and what they were trying to do. I agreed to give it shot. Then he told me he needed it in 3 weeks. Write lyrics and melody, arrange, record, mix and master in 3 weeks! So, that’s what we did, almost. We were 3 weeks and 3 days delivering the final track.

The Moonshiners showed up and delivered on this one. A special shout out to Ben who engineered and mixed. It’s mighty fun when your boy shows how talented he is.

Enjoy, Russ
